Accounts Receivable (AR) refers to the money owed to your business by other companies or entities for the sale of goods or services that have been supplied on credit. Upon completion of the work, a customer invoice is generated stipulating the amount owed, the timeframe for the payment to be made, and the terms if the payment is not received.
The primary functions of Accounts Receivable are to ensure: the business receives full payment for services rendered in full and on time, account reconciliation including receipting and verification of payments, overseeing pending balances, resolving any financial disparities or inconsistencies, and general invoice management.
Essentially, Accounts Receivable reconciles incoming payments with outgoing invoices.
